What I'm Doing During This Home School Situation

Here is what I’ve been doing with my kiddo during this super weird home schooling situation. She's 6 and sneezed directly into my coffee yesterday, I recommend travel mugs. 

I use the things she can self-direct with while I’m doing work, however, she seems to manage (at most) 20-30 minutes alone with an app, tv show, or website.

Don't beat yourself up if you need to put on Paw Patrol so you can attend a virtual meeting or focus on something for your job. Shit's real weird right now, there are no rules, so do what you can manage.

#1 Maintain a schedule

We get up at the same time we always have and do our usual morning routine:

• Wash face
• Brush teeth
• Brush hair
• Make beds
• Get dressed
• Breakfast, etc

#2 Alternate between online resources and physical learning

First, we check in with her teacher for attendance each morning

• Physical
• One language art worksheet from school
• One math worksheet from school
• One game worksheet from school
• Practice letter and number writing
• Reading books
• Sight word flash cards
• Art/Crafts
• Puzzles
• Leap Pad Books

• Online
• Scholastic Daily Lessons
• Starfall (we have the paid subscription it’s $35 for the year and totally worth it)
• YouTube videos from her music teacher
• StorylineOnline (so cool! She’s had Betty White, Sean Astin, and Kristen Bell read her stories)
• If their webpage is overwhelmed during the day try their YouTube
• Story Time from Space (astronauts read to kids from the International Space Station)
• I alternate between Storyonline and Story Time from Space to keep her interested
• Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems (she LOVES this)
• If the website is overwhelmed just go the Kennedy Center YouTube
• Pete the Cat Live Story Time on Instagram each day at 12pm EST with James Dean
• Mystery Science (we do the mini lessons for K-5)
• Raz Kids
• Our district provides this for free, it's wonderful
• PBS Kids App
• Hoopla , Overdrive , and Libby through the library
• See if your library provides access to Kanopy FREE MOVIES
• Kanopy and Hoopla both have channels on my Roku stick so I can watch things on the big screen

#3 Other Stuff

• Cleaning up
• Cooking together
• Exercise
• Ballet on YouTube with Daniella Bebb
• Cleveland Inner City Ballet has classes on Facebook Live
• Yoga on YouTube with Cosmic Kids
• Little Sports Exercise for Kids on YouTube
• Random things like a leprechaun trap or our fish Pablo’s birthday party
• My kiddo puts on “puppet shows” with her stuffed animals from bed
• Going for walks

It totally was a trap

 #4 Nighttime

• We do our same exact nighttime routine as it normally would be done.
• I leave time to wipe down the surfaces and spray things with Lysol
• Then I try to read or watch or something to clear my head
• I might even get to talk to my husband!
